Lexicography and Dictionary Making

Creating dictionaries requires careful analysis of how words are actually used, not just how they should be used according to prescriptive rules. Modern lexicography is descriptive, documenting language as it exists rather than prescribing how it ought to be.

This descriptive approach means that dictionaries must constantly be updated to reflect language change. New words are added, definitions are refined, and obsolete terms are marked or removed.
